Development firm Barshop & Oles has begun work on its latest retail project. Known as WestPointe Village, the project will span 50 acres of land at State Highway 46 and Loop 337 in the city of New Braunfels, which is located just north of San Antonio.

An estimated 1,500 people watched Friday as 1,500 Christmas lights brightened the night and the spirits of those who came to celebrate the annual downtown holiday kickoff.

Construction began Thursday at the Westpointe Village shopping center - soon to be home to the city's second H-E-B. Perched on the southwest corner of Loop 337 and State Highway 46, developers said the future grocery store and retail center could welcome shoppers by late summer or early fall 2010.
